Make a study schedule
You can’t just decide what to do at the beginning of a study session – you’ll just set yourself up for procrastination. You need to have a concrete plan that you’ve made before hand. I usually decide what I’m going to study, how I’m going to study the subject, and when. Check out this post on how I make my study schedules!
Less is more
Your study sessions should be short but sweet. Try not to study for too long at one time, since this can lead to burnout and decreased focus. Instead, spread out the material you want to learn over a couple of days. This way, you’ll still study the same amount, but you’ll be less prone to overworking yourself. As well as this, spreading out your studying allows you to take advantage of the benefits of spaced repetition!
Find what method work for you
One of the most important things is to make sure that you’re using effective study methods. Try to incorporate active recall as much as possible into your studying, since this will decrease the amount of time you have to study. As well as this, find study methods that you enjoy, like using interactive apps or making notes.
Start with the most difficult task
You should try to “eat the frog“, so to speak. “If it’s your job to eat a frog, it’s best to do it first thing in the morning. And If it’s your job to eat two frogs, it’s best to eat the biggest one first.” What Brian Tracy means when he says this is that you should try do your most difficult tasks first to get it out of the way. This way, you won’t procrastinate all day! Start with the most difficult topics you have to study so you’ll have more motivation for the later ones.
Make studying fun
It’s true that if you find things you like, you’ll probably do them more often. For example, if you find studying fun, then you’ll study more often. Try to incorporate gamification into your studying so that you’re incentivised to study consistently. Websites like quizlet, duolingo, and kahoot are specially designed to bring the fun back into learning. You could also set up regular study sessions with friends!
