How to remember more of what you learn

Studying is simple but remembering what you study can be really difficult. Luckily, there are a few ways that you can improve your memory to remember as much as possible of what you study or learn in class!

Use active recall

Active recall is so useful to any student. Using active recall study methods, like flashcards or practice papers, can improve your memory significantly. This is because you’re practising recalling the memory from your mind, so you remember it for longer!

Use spaced repetition

Spaced repetition is also really important. This is when you revise topics you’ve learnt on a regular basis in order to cement them in your memory. Try to revise anything you’ve learnt a day, a week, and a month after you’ve learnt it!

Eat a healthy diet

Memory isn’t all just about revising, though – there are some ways to improve your memory without having to do much. One such way is by having a healthy diet. This means that you have enough calories and nutrients to keep your brain active! Also, there are some foods that have been shown to boost memory, like fish, blueberries, and turmeric!

Go to sleep!

Getting enough sleep is paramount to remember what you learn. This is because while you sleep, your mind essentially consolidates your memories and stores them with related pre-existing memories in your brain.

Do some exercise

According to Harvard Medical School, there are two ways that exercise benefits memory. First, it benefits your brain cells and blood vessels to improve function and thereby memory. Secondly, it indirectly improves memory by decreasing stress and improving sleep, both of which benefit your memory!
