How to catch up on your studies

We’ve all fallen behind at some point, right? Whether it’s because of stress, other commitments, or just forgetting to study, you’ve probably found yourself behind on your studies at least once. And of course, there’s a lot of work to do to catch up – sounds overwhelming! It doesn’t have to be, though.

Set clear goals

First of all, take stock of where you are. How far behind are you, exactly? Take note of everything you need to do: overdue homework, upcoming exams, or topics you need to study. This will help you feel less overwhelmed. You can also use this list to help you make your study plan. However, remember to not make your list too long, since this might cause you to get overwhelmed again.

Make a study plan

Now that you have your list, you just need to set aside time to get everything done. Pick a time when you’re most productive, and create a mini to-do list for every study session that you set aside time for. You might find this post helpful – it has a couple of study schedules that you can adjust to your own needs.

Use active recall

Using active recall to study can help you catch up much faster. This is because active recall allows you to remember more info in a certain amount of time, so you won’t have to study for very long. Use flashcards, answer past papers, or do some practice questions to incorporate active recall into your studying!

Prioritise the essentials

If you want to catch up on your studies quickly, then there’s no time to waste. Focus on the most pressing tasks (like exams or assignments!) and study the subjects you find the most difficult. Of course, don’t abandon a subject if you find it easy, but don’t dedicate too much time to it. And make sure you’re not wasting time on passive recall!

Make studying fun

Catching up on your studies will probably take time, so make sure you make studying fun to prevent burnout. Use websites like quizlet.live, blooket, or kahoot to make studying more enjoyable and gamified! Of course, you can always just study with friends.
