How to have work-life balance for busy students

It’s important to have good work-life balance. Without it, you can be prone to stress and burnout. It’s especially difficult for students to have good work-life balance due to seemingly endless piles of homework and revision. Luckily, there are some things you can do to improve your work-life balance and become less overwhelmed!

Table of Content
  • Don’t feel guilty
  • Use high-return study methods
  • Plan out your days
  • Prioritise tasks
  • Don’t forget about self-care

Don’t feel guilty

Nowadays, we live in a culture that celebrates overwork. It seems as though the longer you spend revising, the better you are percieved. However, it’s important to realise that studying for 8+ hours a day is impossible to do consistently, and you shouldn’t feel guilty for not doing so! Remember that you shouldn’t compare yourself to others – if studying for 8+ hours works for them but not for you, that’s fine!

Use high-return study methods

It’s impossible to have good work-life balance if what you’re doing is inefficient. By wasting time on passive recall methods, you’ll spend more time on studying while you could be doing something more productive or relaxing! Be sure to check out this post about the best active recall study techniques.

Plan out your days

By planning out your days, be able to track how much time you spend on your studies. This is super important, since you’ll be able to know whether you have good work-life balance or not! Personally, I like to use Google Calendar to plan my days and ensure that I don’t spend too much time studying, or vice versa!

Prioritise tasks

Prioritising tasks is incredibly imporant! This is because you’ll know what to say “no” to if you start to get overwhelmed. As well as this, prioritising tasks allows you to see what you have to do, meaning that you’re much less likely to become overwhelmed.

Don’t forget about self-care

Finally, you need to make time for self-care. Don’t forget about the ‘life’ part of ‘work-life balance’! Self-care is super important, since it both helps to prevent stress and burnout, and it can lead to better exam scores! Check out this post for 100 self-care ideas!
