It strengthens your brain

Studies have found that reading more books can change your brain! It strengthens networks of circuits and signals in your brain, especially the part of your brain that responds to physical sensations. As well as this, people who read often are less likely to develop symptoms of dementia.

Reading improves vocabulary

When you read – especially starting from a young age – you start to develop a larger vocabulary. This is incredibly important in life! Not only does a rich vocabulary allow you to express yourself elloquently and efficiently, but it also improves your test scores, university applications, and job prospects!

It can reduce stress

Because exam stress is so common, it’s imperative that you read often! Even reading for only 30 minutes a day can reduce your stress levels significantly. Although one of the biggest hurdles people cite when asked why they don’t read more often is due to a lack of time, even 30 minutes a day is enough!

Reading can increase your lifespan

Did you know that reading can make you live longer? It’s surprising, but it’s true! Reading for only 30 minutes a day makes you 23% more likely to live longer than someone who doesn’t read at all. Although the effect isn’t fully explained, it’s likely due to decreased stress and improved mental cognition!
