Unfortunately (or for some people, fortunately), the new school year is about to start. For most of us, this means assignments, essays, and exams. Because of how stressful yet important school is, it’s imperative to be well-prepared for the new school year. Check out some of these tips on how to effectively prepare for the new school year 🙂
- Review what you learned
- Set goals for the new year
- Make a study plan
- Pack your bags
- Fix your sleep schedule
Review what you learned
Over the last few days of the summer holidays, try to review what you learned last year. Try to test yourself with flashcards, or at the very least, read over your notes and textbook. By doing this, you’ll have a headstart in your classes. This is especially important for students who are doing multi-year courses, since the information will be even more relevant.
Set goals for the new year
Unless you want your year to fly by with no direction, then it’s important to set goals. Before school starts, make a list of things you want to achieve. Then, plan out exactly how you’re going to achieve those things. If your goal is to get straight As, then make a study plan. Alternatively, if your goal is to make new friends, then try joining different clubs.
Make a study plan
If you want to succeed academically in your first term, then it’s important to make a study plan. Try find out what activities you’ll be doing during the week, then schedule study sessions when you can. If possible, find out what classes you have on each day, so that you can set aside the study sessions on that day for reviewing what you learned.
Pack your bags
First of all, make sure you have everything you’ll need for school. You don’t want to be frantically shopping for a calculator at 7pm on the Sunday before your school starts. Pack your bag and organise your stuff the day before, so you won’t be late to school on the first day. Also, if your school has a uniform, buy it a few days ahead of time!!! Going to school in trousers that don’t fit you because they were the only thing the shop had left is not cool.
Fix your sleep schedule
Do as I say, not as I do. Despite being back home for at least 3 weeks now, my sleep schedule is still messed up. Before school starts, decide on a day that you won’t mind being unproductive and groggy on, and wake up early that day. It’ll suck, but at least it’ll be better than if you woke up at 6am on your first day after being used to waking up at 11am.
