How to create a catch-up plan for studying

Life moves fast, and school life moves even faster. Obligations and responsibilities can pile up fast, and before you know it, you’ll be behind on your schoolwork. Don’t worry though – here’s an easy guide on how to catch up on your studying.

Getting motivated

Catching up on work can be really difficult since it seems like more effort than it actually is. Often, you don’t have a to-do list or plan on how to catch up, so the process seems really difficult and cumbersome. Because of this, you’re more likely to lose motivation quickly and start procrastinating. However, creating a catch-up plan can help you feel more organised and ready to tackle the work!

Make a to-do list

The first thing you’ll have to do is make a list of everything you need to get done. Make sure you include homework assignments, revision, and other studying you need to finish soon. This means that you’ll have all your work in one place, and you’ll know exactly what to do next.

Prioritise everything

Now, work out what order you have to do everything in. Write down any deadlines for assignments or dates for tests and exams. As well as this, number each task in order of importance, from 1 (least important) to 5 (most important). You should also include the approximate time each task will take you – this will help you create your study plan later.

Find the time

Look at your calendar – when do you have free time to catch up on your work? In a spreadsheet, notion page, or on a piece of paper, write down each day of the week, and next to it, write how much time you’ll have on that day to study and do assignments.

Schedule it in

Use the prioritised to-do list to choose which assignment or task you’re going to do each day. You can use the estimated timings to help you make sure you’ll have enough time to finish the task. Also, make sure you start with the high-priority assignments: the ones that are of high importance or have nearing deadlines.

Stay consistent

Now that you have a study plan, all you have to do is stay consistent. Try not to fall behind again – get your friends to motivate you and act as accountability partners. As well as this, think about the fact that once you catch up on your studying, your workload will decrease significantly! Make sure to reward yourself for any milestones as well – once you’re 25%, 50% and 75% done with your work, treat yourself to something.
