5 Tips to easily study a language

Languages are really important in our world – they allow us to communicate. That’s why studying a language is one of the best subject options out there. However, it can be really difficult to learn a whole new language from scratch. Check out these tips to help you!

Table of Content
  • Do a bit each day
  • Repeat words and phrases
  • Find what you struggle with
  • Write as you would normally
  • Do practice questions

Do a bit each day

Practising a language daily is essential to make sure that you don’t forget it. As well as this, because there are so many words to learn, it’s better to do a bit each day rather than have long weekly study sessions. You can use apps like Duolingo, Anki, or Quizlet to help you!

Repeat words and phrases

To help with your pronunciation and memory, try repeating the words and phrases that you hear or read. This can help you get used to speaking in your target language, and it can also improve your memory of the words. Don’t be afraid to read out loud!

Find what you struggle with

It’s also really important to identify what you find difficult in your target language. For example, Spanish vocabulary comes naturally to me, but I sometimes struggle with verb tenses. Figure out what you struggle with, and do lots of exercises to help you improve!

Write as you would normally

This sounds odd, but let me explain. Would you really say, “Last week I went to the restaurant. I had soup. My brother had chicken. How tasty!” in your native language? Not really. Instead, when writing in your target language, try to use the complex structures that you use in your native language.

Do practice questions

While learning vocabulary is really important, doing practice questions or papers is really important as well. This is because they cover a wide variety of common and rare vocabulary, and they can help you apply the knowledge you learnt to a more realistic setting.
