Recently, I found myself in a study slump. I was demotivated, tired all the time, and I just didn’t have the energy to study or do anything productive. I’ve managed to turn that around, however, and here’s what I did!
- Find some motivation
- Don’t make a concrete plan
- Make a to-do list
- Take it slow
- Do what you enjoy
Find some motivation
The first thing you should do is find something to motivate you. I have a whole post about reasons why you should study, so check that out for some inspiration! Consider the benefits that you’ll get from studying rather than just what would happen if you don’t study. As well as this, you can also make some moodboards or look at aesthetic Pinterest accounts to motivate yourself.
Don’t make a concrete plan
This might sound contradictory to a lot of my previous advice, but bear with me. If you’re trying to recover from a study slump, then creating a plan might just overwhelm you. There’s a chance that you’ll fall behind schedule, which can cause you to become even more demotivated. If you really want to make a plan, then make sure that it’s not too much work at first.
Make a to-do list
You might be asking how to keep track of all your tasks without a study plan. What you should do instead is have a to-do list. On a piece of paper or an app like todoist, list everything you need to study. Make sure to include any deadlines! Creating a to-do list instead of a study schedule can help relieve some pressure, which can allow you to study without feeling harried.
Take it slow
Another important thing to mention is to not overburden yourself. When you first realise that you’re in a study slump, make a list of one or two things to do that day. Don’t give yourself too many things to do, but enough that you’ll have a sense of achievement. This serves to get the ball rolling so you can slowly get back to your regular productivity levels!
Do what you enjoy
The final thing you should do is make studying enjoyable. Use study methods that you find fun, like making notes or summary sheets, or easy, like testing yourself using flashcards. Try to incorporate some active recall, if possible. You can also make studying more fun by lighting scented candles, listening to lofi, or studying with friends.
