Summer vacation is a time for friends, fun, and… studying? While it’s important to take a break and relax during the summer (or any holiday, for that matter!), you might also want to get ahead of the game and start studying. Unfortunately, this can be difficult if you also want to prioritise relaxing or sightseeing. Luckily, you’ve come to the right place! Whether you’re jet-setting across the world or exploring your hometown with friends, you can still find time to study – if you want to.
- Do something you enjoy
- Make studying fun!
- Relax – don’t study too much!
- Don’t make a plan
- Make a to-do list instead
Do something you enjoy
Summer vacation is for having fun, so don’t force yourself to study something boring. Focus on the subjects you enjoy, so you’ll be motivated to study! If you force yourself to study something you don’t like, you’ll probably lose motivation to study at all, which can jeopardise your summer study goals. Also, use study methods that you like, and don’t worry that much about efficacy. You (probably) aren’t studying for a big exam, so focus more on enjoying studying than making it super productive.
Make studying fun!
Try to make studying more fun by incorporating gamification, such as using Kahoot! You can also study with friends. If your friends don’t really want to study (are they really your friends then?), try studying in a new location, like a park or a library. Lighting a candle and turning on some quiet music is an easy way of making studying fun 🙂 For more ideas on romanticising studying, check out this blog post!
Relax – don’t study too much!
Make sure that you’re not spending your entire summer studying. You might quickly lose motivation and energy, which can lead to burnout, especially if you don’t take breaks. Over-studying can also cause you to resent studying, which means that you’ll be even more unhappy during the school year. Remember that the summer is meant to be enjoyed, so study a little, but not too much.
Don’t make a plan
I know – this is the opposite of what I always say. However, during summer vacation, your schedule tends to be really fluid. So, if you make a strict study plan, you probably won’t follow it, which can stress you out and make you feel like you’re disorganised! Allow yourself to go with the flow and follow your whims, so don’t create a strict study schedule.
Make a to-do list instead
Instead of making a super strict study schedule, list the things you’d like to get done. Try ranking them in order of importance, if you want. Then, whenever you have a spare moment or you feel productive and motivated, take a look at your to-do list and start studying! This can help you regain a sense of organisation while also allowing you to have a relaxing summer vacation.
