5 ways students start the new school year successfully

School is starting soon. So, whether you love it or hate it, you can’t really avoid it. But, you can get ready for it! There are a couple of things that can help us prepare for the new school year and set us up for success:

Evaluate the previous school year

Sit down and try to evaluate how your previous school year went. Moreover, make sure you write this information down somewhere, like in a journal or on Notion. Answer questions like: what did you do well, what would you like to change, etc. Use this information to help you plan your new school year!

Set goals for the new school year

Decide on 3-5 goals that you would like to achieve within the school year. Make sure that they’re manageable and will help drive you forward in your life – next week I’ll be making a post that talks about goal-setting in more detail! Also, write them down somewhere, since this can help you stay consistent!

Pick a few habits to start

Think about your goals, and consider what habits you’ll need to start to achieve them. Try to start the habits slowly, then gradually start to develop them. For example, if your habit is to run 5 km every day, start with 1 km! Also, give yourself reminders of your habits, and make sure not to miss two days in a row.

Make a (tentative) schedule

Now that you have your goals and habits, try creating a rough plan for your schedule. Make sure you include time for studying, relaxing, exercising, and personal development! Moreover, when scheduling your me-time, try to be flexible so that you don’t stress yourself out 🙂 I like to do this on Google Calendar, but there’s tons of other app – even doing it on paper works!

Clean your desk and your room

Finally, clean your desk and your room: declutter anything you don’t need. Furthermore, organise your desk in a way that you know you’ll be able to upkeep. Essentially, you shouldn’t make your desk super minimalist if you know you use a lot of stuff. Cleaning your space can be helpful in making you feel like you’re turning a new leaf, which can motivate you as the new school year starts!

Bonus tip for the new school year!

One very important thing to do is to fix your sleep schedule. I know that most of us like to sleep late and wake up at noon during the summer, but school usually doesn’t start at noon. As we get closer to the new school year, try to wake up 15 minutes earlier each day until you get used to waking up early.
