For most students, procrastination is the biggest barrier to study. There’s always a good reason not to study – you want to watch a movie, text a friend, or clean your room instead. However, you won’t get anywhere without working toward your goals. Here’s how to stop procrastinating and achieve your dreams!
Figure out why you’re procrastinating
People don’t just wake up and decide to put their dreams on hold – there’s a always reason behind inaction. Think about why you’re procrastinating: are you bored? tired? uninspired? This will help you fix the underlying problem rather than temporarily slapping a bandaid over it, meaning you can stop procrastination long-term!
Reason 1 – you find it boring
Maybe you find studying boring, and you don’t want to waste your time on activities that aren’t fun. Try to make studying more fun by implementing gamification or studying with friends. You can also use rewards to keep yourself motivated and make studying a game!
Reason 2 – you’re confused
Some people procrastinate because the don’t know where to start. To help you find your way, make a to-do list that breaks down all the steps in the task. This will help you feel more self-assured and ready to tackle the task, whatever it may be!
Reason 3 – you plan too much
Other people plan too much (sounds like me lol), which can distract you from your goal! Keep your to-do list simple. Write it down on a piece of paper then leave it alone. Close your planner or google calendar – you already know what you have to do, so do it!
Reason 4 – you’re burnt out
Sadly, burnout is a reality for many students, and it can cause you to procrastinate. Make sure you take frequent breaks and do something that isn’t studying. Also, try to re-motivate yourself by thinking about why you need to study!
