I know, studying can be really boring sometimes, especially when it’s a subject you don’t like (physics). However, there is a way you can make studying even the most boring of all subjects enjoyable: gamification! Find out what it is, its benefits, and how to use it right here!
What is gamification?
Basically, gamification is when you incorporate game elements into non-game situations (like studying!). This is done by adding a sense of competition, progress, or collaboration into the task to make it more engaging.
What are its benefits?
Gamification is one of the easiest ways to make studying more fun, and if you find studying more fun, you’re probably going to study more! Also, by making studying more engaging, you make it easier to stay focused, and you can therefore study for longer and study more effectively! Finally, making studying fun makes you happier, and who doesn’t want that?
Ways to incorporate gamification into studying!
Apps + Websites
The easiest way to incorporate gamification into your studying is through apps. Kahoot, Quizizz, and Quizlet all have fun, interactive elements, and Blooket is by far the most gamified study website out there! Kahoot is mostly focused on competitive quizzes between groups, which is similar to Quizizz (only there’s power-ups in Quizizz!) Quizlet has quizlet.live, which is a team-based quiz game, or it has the match function, which allows you to match flashcard terms to get the highest score on the leaderboard! Finally, Blooket also has competitive quizzes, except that they’re in a much more gamified format!
Rewards & racing
Rewards are another great way to make studying more fun! Set yourself milestones and reward yourself for reaching them. If you’re a competitive person but you’re not interested in gamified apps + websites, then try racing against the clock! Choose a time by which you want to complete a task, and race to finish it in time – you can even reward yourself for finishing on time 🙂
Study socially
Studying with friends can also make it more fun! However, it can also be distracting sometimes. As an alternative, you could download an app like Flora that lets you track the time you spend studying, and you can compete with your friends to be the most productive!
