Exam season is one of the most stressful events for students. However, stress can negatively affect your exam performance, and let’s face it, stress it a pretty unpleasant emotion. So, it’s very important to reduce stress as much as possible during exam season. Here’s how to do that.
Make a study plan
Making a study plan is a really great way to reduce stress. This is because it gives you a sense of security that you’ll be able to get all your studying done before the big exam. To make a study plan, list everything you need to get done, figure out when you have time to do it, then organise all your tasks in your schedule.
Identify stressors
To reduce stress, the best thing to do is to work out what’s stressing you out, then eliminating that. For example, if you’re most stressed about your history exam, then focus your studying on history. This way, you’ll feel more prepared, which can reduce stress. You won’t always be able to completely eliminate your stressors, but if you manage them you’ll be able to reduce your stress significantly.
Spend time on hobbies
The best way to reduce stress is to have fun, and the best way to have fun is to spend time on your hobbies. Every day, make sure you spend at least half an hour doing something you enjoy and are passionate about. This is a great way to take a break from revision. However, make sure your hobbies are something active, like crochet or running, than passive, like scrolling through Instagram (unless it’s mine!)
Vent your stress
If you keep all of your big feelings of stress inside you, you’ll feel dysregulated and unhappy. Make sure that you regularly vent your stress. Talk to a friend about what you’re experiencing, or write about it in a journal.
Get things done ASAP
Stress often happens when you feel overwhelmed, which happens when your tasks have built up and you have a lot to do. It’s so important to get assignments done as soon as you get assigned them so that you’re not rushing at the last minute to finish them.
