Set time for time-wasting
This might seem super counter-productive. However, setting aside a specific time to be on your phone, check your email, or binge a TV show can be super helpful! This makes you less likely to use your productivity time on time-wasting things.
List 3 goals for the day
By setting 3 goals or 3 major tasks to complete by the end of the day, you ensure that your work is focused and productive. Try complete these tasks in the morning, so that you’re sure you’ll be able to finish them by the end of the day.
Use the 2-minute rule
If a task only takes 2 minutes to finish, do it now! This makes your to-do list much shorter, since you’re crossing out the quick and easy tasks the second they pop up. You can also apply this to new habits that you want to start, making them easy, therefore making you more likely to do them!
Plan out your day
By planning out your day, you ensure that you meet your goals for the day. I personally like to use timeblocking using Google Calendar, but there’s many ways to do this! Just make sure that your plan is flexible enough to deal with unexpected occurences.
Take regular breaks
By taking breaks often, you ensure that you don’t become burnt-out, and that your energy levels stay high. Try making your breaks frequent but short, since this means that you won’t lose the focused mindset you were in before hand. If you want some ideas for things to do during your breaks, try out these self-care ideas!
Use the 30 second rule for distractions
If you make a distraction take more than 30 seconds to access, you’ll drastically decrease how often you get distracted. For example, you can place your phone in another room, or set up a website blocker with a password that takes more than 30 seconds to type in.
Stop multitasking
Unfortunately, humans can only focus on one thing at a time. Multitasking is incredibly harmful to your focus and productivity, and it just means that you do two tasks badly rather than one task well. Schedule out time for each individual task rather than multitasking!
Choose a specific place to be productive
By choosing a specific place to be productive, you associate that place with being focused, therefore meaning that you enter the correct mindset everytime you go there. For me, I associate my desk with studying and my bed with writing blog posts!
Turn off notifications
Every time you get a notification, it erodes your focus, and your brain has to fight to stay on track. Make focusing easier by turning off notifications, putting your phone on silent, or turning on do not disturb mode!
Find your Biological Prime Time
Your Biological Prime Time is the time at which you have the most energy and when you can get the most work done. Track your energy levels throughout the day to find this time, then schedule your tasks during that time!
