Top 5 secrets to being a consistent student

Everyone talks about how to be more motivated to study, but rarely do we talk about how to be more consistent. Consistency is key to being a better student since motivation can fade quickly. So here are some tips to being a more consistent student!

Table of Content
  • Have a study plan
  • Make it simple
  • Romanticise studying
  • Reward yourself
  • Make it a habit

Have a study plan

The most important thing is to have a study plan so that you know what to study and when. This is also important because you need to have a set time when you know you have to study. Without this, then you’re just assuming that you’ll find the time and motivation to study randomly, which isn’t always the case! It’s better to have a study plan so that you know when to start studying.

Make it simple

At first, try to make your studying as easy and effortless as possible. Of course, this doesn’t mean that you should use passive recall methods like reading the textbook to study. Instead, try use low-effort active recall techniques to study instead, like using flashcards to recall information or verbally blurting.

Romanticise studying

Another way to stay consistent is to romanticise studying. Although motivation can fade quickly, the ways you romanticise studying won’t fade, and you’ll continue to stay motivated to study. As well as this, romanticising your studying in different ways can give you little boosts of motivation to study consistently.

Reward yourself

Try to reward yourself for studying. Not only does this keep you motivated to study for longer, but you’ll also be conditioning yourself. In your brain, you’ll start to associate studying with the happiness this reward brings you, therefore making you happy to read!

Make it a habit

The final thing is to make studying an unconscious habit rather than an action you choose to do every day. Try to make it a part of your daily routine. You can do this by choosing small ways to study, like doing Duolingo or testing yourself with flashcards, and using habit stacking to do them immediately after another habit!
