It’s that time of year again: the days are getting longer and the weather is getting warmer. That probably means you have summer break. If you want to make this your best summer ever, then doing some of these things can help.
Learn a new skill
One of the most helpful things you can do during the summer is to learn a new skill. You can do this by taking an online course, watching tutorials, or reading a book about it – any method works. It’s also a great way to boost your resume. My personal favourite online course websites are coursera, edX, and duolingo (for languages)
Explore what you love
Summer is also a great time to explore your interests since you have more free time. Think about what hobbies or interests you have, then see how you can broaden them. Read a book about your favourite topic or start listening to a podcast about it. Don’t worry too much about being productive and noting down what you’re learning: treat this as a way to relax, not as a school assignment.
Get work experience
If you have time on your hands, why not get some work experience? A part-time job is a great way to earn some extra money, while an unpaid internship can really boost your resume. Work experience is an amazing opportunity for learning & growth. Ask around to see where you can help out. If you’re not on linkedin, then get on there and start looking for an internship.
Try volunteering
There are a lot of people (or animals!) that could use your help this summer. Find a cause that means a lot to you, then see if any related organisations are looking for volunteers. Helping out at a charity or shelter is a great way to make a difference this summer.
Get ready for next year
Studying over the summer might not sound so fun, but if you’re half way through your GCSE or A-level course, it can really pay off. Take this time to review the content you learnt last year and get ahead of next year’s topics. Don’t spend all your time studying, but a little goes a long way. It’s much better to study over the summer than to have to cram during the school year.
